Cuba was hit by a meteor Source:

According to local news outlets, in the Western Cuban town of viñales, a meteorite fell. Residents reported loud explosions and a trace in the sky earlier this afternoon and the national weather service confirmed that it had received reports of the meteor spotted in the skies over the Florida Keys. Reporters Cuban TelePinar television station tweeted that after the explosion found the black stones the size of a palm, which, ironically, fell near a mural with the dinosaurs.

Meteors fall often, but we do not notice

Survivors of the fall of the meteorite was not.

In the video below you can hear the sonic boom at 0:46. Objects that move faster than the speed of sound, produce the loud shock wave powerful enough to break the glass.

One of the Twitter users said that the meteorite was discovered the meteorological satellite GOES-East.

Meteorites fall to Earth more often than you think. Meteor particles the size of dust particles constantly enter the atmosphere of the Earth, but often go unnoticed. Meteoroids between millimeter and centimeter burn up in the atmosphere and appear to us as shooting stars. The larger drop occurs in an average one meter meteorite falls on the planet once a year, and scattered, reaching the surface, but the 100-meter meteoroid hits the Earth about once in 10,000 years. Meteoroid with a diameter of 1 kilometer, hitting the Ground, it is the catastrophic events that occur on average once in a million years.

But the fall of meteorites is medium in size can be dramatic — and in some cases dangerous. The Chelyabinsk meteorite that hit southern Russia in February 2013, broke the Windows and caused partial injuries to nearly 1,500 people.

Do you keep at home a piece of the meteorite? Tell us .
