Cells found super elastic properties Source:

A Group of scientists from Spain, France, Germany and Singapore discovered that some cells under certain conditions can exhibit super elastic properties. In a paper published in the journal Nature, the group describes the study of epithelial cells and the discovery. Manuel Teri and Atef Aspasios told about their work in the journal. Earlier studies have shown that certain body parts are under tension — leather is a great example. This tension manifests itself in the gaps that occur when the skin incision. Tension in the organs caused by tension in the cells.

Previous studies have also shown that elements within cells can cause tension and confront him due to cytoskeletal filaments transmit force. Such filaments actin attach to the cells their shape. The place of adhesion between cells can transmit such forces that cause the tension to grow around the body — like skin.

Previous studies have also shown that when cells are subjected to small deformations, they are usually elastic, that is, the cell can return to normal form after eliminating the cause of the deformation. However, when there are large-scale deformation, the cells can be stretched much more than their limits, and then stretch and deformation become permanent.

New research has shown that sometimes the cells become super elastic, able to stretch out a lot more its limits and then recover without any signs of permanent damage. The study of cells in this state have shown that they can become super elastic even without increasing the tension. Returning to the normal state, the cell also does not show any signs of severalstates.
