Analysis which will predict the date of death of your heart Source:

Many clinical studies allow us to predict the health status and suggest that person waits in the future. But not long ago, scientists from Johns Hopkins University released new data, according to which information encoded in mitochondria can give information about how much a man's risk of dying from heart disease.

The Results were published in the journals JAMA Cardiology and European Heart Journal. Developed test can not only predict whether a person's sudden cardiac death, but also to prevent it. For example, to give the opportunity to start treatment in advance. According to researches, the scientists found that the smaller the number of copies of mitochondrial DNA in humans, the higher the risk of death from heart disease.

The study was Led by Dr. Dan Acring. The scientist and his team gathered genetic data from nearly 22,000 patients who were produced by metering the number of copies of mitochondrial DNA compared with nuclear DNA. All data were included in the cardiac calculator, which is now the "gold standard" in the diagnosis of diseases of the heart. It takes into account a lot of criteria: from blood pressure to cholesterol levels and Smoking to heart rate.

Adding a new DNA-test, allowed us to predict the six people who were not at risk of a heart attack in the next 5 years. But 139 people were able to cancel without harm to health preventive treatment with statins, which were prescribed. The second study confirmed the results: researchers measured the number of copies of mitochondrial DNA in 11 093 patients and found that for 20 years and 361 people with this figure was lowered died from sudden cardiac arrest.

"We believe that the number of copies of mitochondrial DNA is a new marker of risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Their number may indicate the urgency of beginning treatment. With our method we can create a test that will identify people at risk of sudden cardiac death in the near future".
